Verdant Leisure raises over £22,000 for Dementia UK

In 2020 bespoke holiday park operator Verdant Leisure announced its support of Dementia UK - the dementia specialist nurse charity. Over the past two years, employees, holiday home owners and holiday guests across Verdant Leisure parks and Lancaster Head Office have held numerous fundraising events to raise a total of £22,427.25 for the charity.

The past two years of fundraising events and activities saw members of the Verdant team take A Dip for Dementia in freezing cold conditions, as well as hosting an array of bake sales and delicious tea parties to raise funds for Dementia UK.

Today, dementia is the leading cause of death in the UK. By 2025, more than one million people in the UK will be living with this condition.

There’s no cure for dementia. But there is care. Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurses are continually supported and developed by the charity to provide life-changing support for families affected by all forms of dementia. Their Nurses work in hospitals, GP’s practices and local community services to provide clinical, emotional and practical support that enables people to live more positively with dementia.

Verdant Leisure’s Communications Director, Stacey Hope said: “Dementia is a condition that I’m sure is close to many of our hearts, so we are glad we have been able to help support the dedicated team at Dementia UK through fundraising. We’re proud of the efforts our team members and customers have made throughout the last 2 years”

Amy McQueeney, Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships at Dementia UK, said, “Millions of us will know someone living with dementia and many will be directly affected by it. Our Admiral Nurses are a lifeline for families impacted by dementia. With this support from employees, holiday home owners and holiday guests at Verdant Leisure, we can continue to provide vital life-changing care for the families who need it the most.”

To find its new Charity of the Year, Verdant Leisure will call upon holiday home owners, holiday guests and employees to nominate a charity. The nominated charities will then be shortlisted, with the winner decided by an internal vote for staff and holiday home owners. The final 2022 nominated charity will be announced at the end of February.

If you are affected by dementia and need information or advice, you can call Dementia UK’s Helpline on 0800 888 6678 for support from dementia specialist Admiral Nurses. The Helpline is open from 9am to 9pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 5pm at weekends.
